We respect your right to control your personal data. This page explains how to request deletion of your information from ecoTriver.

Your Right to Data Deletion

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other privacy laws, you have the "Right to Erasure" (also known as the "Right to be Forgotten"). This means you can request that we delete your personal data under certain circumstances.

What Data Will Be Deleted?

When you request account deletion, we will permanently remove:

  • Account Information: Your name, email address, password, and account credentials
  • Profile Data: Profile photo, bio, city, music preferences, and favorite genres
  • Ride History: All rides you've offered or booked (subject to retention limits below)
  • Messages: All messages and communications with other users
  • Bookings: Your booking history and ride participation records
  • Preferences: Saved settings, language preferences, and app customizations
  • Login Data: OAuth connections (Facebook, Google) will be disconnected

What May Be Retained?

For legal, security, and fraud prevention purposes, we may retain certain limited information:

  • Transaction Records: Financial transaction data may be kept for tax and accounting compliance (up to 7 years as required by law)
  • Legal Obligations: Data required for ongoing legal proceedings or regulatory requirements
  • Fraud Prevention: Anonymized identifiers to prevent abuse and protect other users
  • Aggregated Analytics: Anonymized, de-identified usage statistics that cannot be linked back to you

This retained data is minimal, anonymized where possible, and kept only as long as legally required.

Emission Reporting & Aggregate Data

ecoTriver reports CO2 emission reductions from shared rides as part of its sustainability commitments. When your account is deleted:

  • Anonymized CO2 data is retained — ride distances, CO2 savings, and trip types are kept in anonymized form (with your personal identifiers removed) to maintain accurate emission reporting totals.
  • Event-level impact totals are preserved — the CO2 saved by shared rides to a specific event is an aggregate figure that does not identify individual users.
  • Climate contribution registry entries remain — records linking CO2 contributions to retired certificates are event-level data and contain no personal information.

This retention is necessary to comply with environmental reporting obligations and maintain the integrity of our published emission data (GDPR Art. 17(3)(b) — compliance with a legal obligation). No retained data can be traced back to you personally.

How to Request Data Deletion

You have two options to delete your account and data:

Option 1: Delete via Account Settings (Recommended)

  1. 1.Log in to your ecoTriver account
  2. 2.Navigate to Profile → Settings → Account
  3. 3.Scroll to the bottom and click "Delete Account"
  4. 4.Confirm deletion and provide optional feedback
  5. 5.Your account and data will be permanently deleted within 30 days

Option 2: Email Data Deletion Request

If you cannot access your account, send an email to:

Include in your email:

  • Subject line: "Data Deletion Request"
  • Your full name
  • Email address associated with your account
  • Reason for deletion (optional)
  • Any additional information to help us verify your identity

Processing Timeline

We will acknowledge your request within 24-48 hours

Identity Verification

We may ask for additional information to verify your identity (1-3 days)

Data Deletion

Your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days of verification

Confirmation

We will send a final confirmation email once deletion is complete

Note: Under GDPR, we must complete deletion requests within 30 days, though most requests are processed much faster.

Important Notes

  • ⚠️Deletion is permanent: Once your data is deleted, it cannot be recovered. Make sure to download any information you want to keep before requesting deletion.
  • ⚠️Active bookings: If you have upcoming rides or bookings, please cancel them before deleting your account to avoid inconveniencing other users.
  • ⚠️Outstanding payments: Ensure all payments are settled before deletion to avoid collection issues.
  • ⚠️Third-party logins: If you signed up with Facebook or Google, deleting your ecoTriver account does not delete your Facebook/Google account. You may need to revoke ecoTriver's access separately in those platforms.

Alternative Options

If you're not ready to delete your account permanently, consider these alternatives:

  • Deactivate Account: Temporarily disable your account while preserving your data
  • Adjust Privacy Settings: Control what information is visible to other users
  • Delete Specific Data: Remove individual rides, messages, or profile information
  • Download Your Data: Request a copy of your data without deleting it (Data Portability)
